YWITDC Programme

Yew Wah Infant and Toddler Discovery Centre (YWITDC) was opened in Shanghai in 2019, and has become the first Yew Chung/Yew Wah learning community that situated in Mainland China with the aim to serve infants aged 0-3 and their caretakers. Pursuing the core values of Yew Chung and Yew Wah, YWITDC creates learning space for infants aged 0-3 to promote “learn through play”, providing early childhood education support that satisfy their developmental needs. YWITDC is also a learning community created for the caretakers of infants aged 0-3, displaying effective interactional strategies in fulfilling toddlers’ needs.

Parental Involvement

• Family participation is important to the growth of children. In our curriculum, parents are participants. They can keep their children company while the children “learn through play”, build a positive parent-child relationship and provide learning support to their children. Meanwhile, we provide courses that are specially designed for parents, grandparents and caretakers to help them understand more about children’s development.
• Good interpersonal relationship gives a sense of security to children. When they have a stable emotional development, they are able to explore and learn proactively. Our professional Chinese and Western teachers take care of and respect every child, and build a positive emotional relationship with them. They also observe, reflect on and respond to the needs of each infant and toddler to motivate them to learn by themselves.
• Environment facilitates the implementation of the concept “learn through play” in which children will receive high quality education. We have created a learning environment that is suitable for children of all age groups, in which they develop holistically.
• Every child is unique and is a competent self-learner. We adopt developmental assessment to observe children’s learning progress. Through observation and reflection, responsive and constructive education plans will be designed and implemented.

YWITDC employs professional and experienced Western teachers from around the world and Chinese teachers with international education background to bring students the essence of true international education and provide a multi-cultural learning environment. The teachers have leadership talents with passion to education to provide stimulating, active and humble learning environment. We also encourage and support our staff to pursue continuing education and training programmes in order to ensure the quality of our teachers and provide students with quality education.

In our team of teachers, Ms Yu Lihong (previously YCIS Shanghai ECE Master Teacher) has 27 years of teaching experience in Early Childhood Education and has been a teacher for different age groups ranging from K2 to Y1. Ms Rachel Blylevens (previously YCIS Shanghai Western High Potential Teacher) is an international teacher from New Zealand and has been teaching in Early Childhood Education for 21 years based on a holistic approach.

YWITDC brings peace and comfort to both parents and their child. By creating an outdoor like setting, we aim to stimulate many different senses such as taste, sight, touch, smell, and sound. The space will provide varieties of materials to explore and play with under the safe yet challenging environment. We also value the interaction between children and adults throughout many different fixtures provided in the space.

Our biggest characteristics lies with our Crawler’s Space, where is a safe environment for infants to develop their muscles by having a soft matted area with lots of interactive elements around. Our welcoming entrance is simple yet open to bridge between outside and the centre. We also provide a nursing space and a quiet sleeping room.
